Every once in awhile, while music is playing on my Dot, the device will give out with a loud electronic ba-DOOP! It’s not responding to any voice command, so what could it be?
It’s probably a notification. Ask it what your notifications are.
Thanks, I’ll give it a shot. I’ve only had this for a couple of months and haven’t explored all it can do.
I hate it. With me, it’s “an Amazon package has been delivered” or “did you know you can change my voice?” or “you haven’t listened to music in awhile, do you want me to play something?” I want only text notifications, but I can only turn off all notifications or none.
Agree that it’s almost certainly a notification. Out of the box, ours came with a variety of default notifications, from local weather to celebrity news. Turned all that shit off posthaste.
That is the feedback it gives you when it sends everything it ever heard to Besoz (and DHS, ICE)
You forgot Russian FSB and the Chinese equivalent of CIA.
It does that too, but not by design.
The constant helpful reminders about what it could be doing for me are why my Alexa devices are all sitting in a closet.
I don’t want to own any such thing, but the makers do have a problem.
When it can do 1000 things, and any given user probably wants 20 of those thousand, but after a common 4 or 5 everyone uses, their individual list of 20 is different, and very close to 0% of users would read a manual or watch an instructional video, how are the users to learn of the things it can do? And how are the developers going to justify adding ever more features if they never get used because nobody knows they got added?
There’s a legit conundrum there. Users buying hi tech stuff they refuse to put in the effort to learn how to use cause a reaction from the vendors.
It can tell me one time and then give me the option to say “thanks, don’t ask me again.”
But when Alexa kept reminding me over and over that it can do things I have no interest in, it tanked my experience and drove me off the platform entirely.
that sound is usually a notification. is there a yellowish light as well?
Thanks all. It was a notification that I might want to reorder something.
I was never interested in getting one of these. I was perfectly happy with my Sonos setup that allowed me to connect to streaming radio stations for jazz and to tap into my iTunes library for other music. But Sonos decided to fuck their long-time customers by not allowing me to use it to listen to my music library unless I paid a lot of money to upgrade to their newest platform. So I went with the Amazon product. I still can’t access my music library and will likely have to upgrade my outdated phone before that can happen (or at least that’s my understanding). That said, most of what is in my library can be accessed through the Dot, so there’s that.
