Cute piece on msn about hot babes playing the big-brained. Hm – they don’t get to Denise Richards till #4?
I have no idea why I thought this might be of interest to my fellow Dopers…

Actually, Shue should have been on the list twice, the second for he role in Hollow Man.
Twickster, we know that you’re both babe-a-licious and brainy. You don’t have to point us at some article to get the point across.
Actually, the point that both Hollywood and the author miss is that brainy women are babe-a-licious because they are brainy. The looks are secondary and often complementary.
An interesting idea for an article, and one of potential interest around here, but weak on the execution. There are five actresses listed, in bullet-point shallowness (with the oh-so-clever “beaker” rating system), and then five more as “honorable mention”. If you have anything to say on this subject, that isn’t even a finished outline; no one’s attention span is this short. And does the author ever say or cite anything to back up her ability to critique brainy women?
And I know it specifically leaves out television, but Amy Acker is still the standard by which this is measured.

Robot Arm – that’s kind of why I brought it up – this is clearly the crowd to complete the list. I don’t know who Amy Acker is, though.
(Oh c’mon, the “key scientific line” thing is pretty funny.)
Amy Acker, notably Winifred “Fred” Burkel on the last three seasons of Angel.
Sure, you can be Babealicious and Brainy at the same time; what the movies always get wrong, though, is that you can’t be a Babealicious Brainy PhD and 22 years old, too. Give me a few actresses that look 35 or 40, then I’ll believe that they’re The Leading Nuclear Physicist in the World or The Top-Rated Computer Researcher in the US. It’s pretty damn hard to go through 8 or 10 years of schooling then manage to dazzle your colleagues before the age of 24.
Doogie did it!

Yebbut he wasn’t babe-alicious, was he?
I beg to differ!
(Although the real babe-alicious guy on that show was Vinnie. It was “Vinnie,” wasn’t it?)
There is nothing wrog with brainy beauties in a comic booky type movies like James Bond. That’s part of the appeal.
But nobody pulled off brainy and beauty better than Dana Scully.
Hey, I want babes who are convincingly nerdy, like Michelle Meyrink (Jordan in *Real Genius) and Alyson Hannigan.
They could have mentioned Zooey Deschanel as Trillian in the upcoming Hitchhiker’s Guide, though it remains to be seen (for us mere mortal non-reviewers) how that’ll work out.
I’m also rather fond of Kate Winslet in Enigma. “Why Miss Wallace… Without your glasses, you don’t look half bad!” “Without my glasses, neither do you.”
