Baby Boomers: Ever sell or read "Grit" Newspapers

Does anyone out there know what Grit Newspapers were? They were advertised on the back inside pages of comic books in the 1960’s, the idea being that you would sign up to be a
distributor and have a delivery route. As I recall there were prizes for achieving various distribution goals, as well as commissions. But I never saw a Grit Newspaper. Who published them and where? What was the editorial content?

I made a halfhearted attempt at a web search, but found nothing.

You didn’t try very hard. Google is your friend.

Did you take a look at this site? I remember the ads as well, but was never allowed to sign up to sell it. Always had a magical aura about it – oohhhh, I could win a telescope with only fifteen subscriptions! Ah, youth.

Thanks to Rhythm and Shag for your replies.

I said I made “half hearted” attempt … I honestly didn’t believe that there was anything out there so I didn’t put out the effort. I should have known better: [rambling] one of the interesting things I’ve noticed about the whole Internet phenom is that things of our parents’ and grandparents generations are so evident on the Web, that historians of the far future may well get confused about exactly when the Net was born. Some may end up believing that Abraham Lincoln wrote the Gettysburg Address on a ThinkPad.[/rambling]

If you liked those Grit ads, check out this site.

Manny, I think Pipeliner’s website would be interesting to
a sufficiently large segment of the SDMB that he should post it separately in MPSIMS!

I remember Grit very well. My grandmother subscribed for many years.

I never delivered it or subscribed myself, though. I’m a little amazed it’s still around.
