If you want to take a stab at an online version of the typical office baby pool…then check out http://www.expectnet.com
To enter our pool, use “beagledave” for the game name in the guest area.
Useful hints:
• We “think” it’s a girl (no visual confirmation on the ultrasound of little jim and the twins)…but let’s just say we haven’t purchased any pink onesies (shit, did I spell that right?) yet…
• The OB/Midwife have the EDB as July 14, 2001
Prizes: ummm none…but you will get the admiration of fellow dopers (as well as “who the hell are THESE people” from our family)
As entries are entered in, the site will display a chart with everyone’s guesses when you make your guess.
Got my guess in there too. I’m hoping the youngin’ squirts ut a few days early for mrs beagledave. (Btw, did she get any new underwear at her shower? /d&r/)
Ok, entered in my guess. Had to. You caught my ‘painballing’ typo before I had a chance to correct it (that alone added 1 pound, 12 oz to the guess, sorry Mrs. BD, blame him - once again )
Upon the birth of my second son, who weighed in at 10 lbs. even, delivered without the benefit of drugs, a good friend of mine declared he was officially afraid of my wife.
I, of course, couldn’t have been more proud…and more than a little bit in awe.
Then when we were delivering our third son, the technician told her the ultrasound showed that we were having a 9 and a half pounder…I think he was surprised when she was relieved by that news!
Congratulations on your upcoming blessed event…7 pounder or 10 pounder, you’ll be the happiest people in the world!
I gave your wife the earliest arrival date so far… July 3. Since most babies come a little early I figured this was a safe guess. Best of luck to you and the Mrs!
okay, I just got error messages at the site, so maybe later… in the meantime, I’ll put my bet in, here.
I’ll say July 22, 4:35 PM, 7 lbs 12 oz, and boy.
Not so late as to need an induction, but I rarely encounter anyone delivering early, especially for first babies (I’m assuming first?).
Good luck. And by the way, my son was 8 lbs 12 oz, 15 days late, and delivered without so much as a stitch needed… I’m shaving a week and a pound off my own experience for good luck. (Plus following Ceejaytee’s lead - I’m due just a few days before she is, and also wouldn’t dream of wishing a huge baby on anyone.)
I hope your wife has a very smooth and easy labor, and everyone does stunningly well.
Well, I’ve added my guess to the list…
I read somewhere that to get the projected birth weight for a baby, you take the mother’s and father’s birthweight and average it out. But, of course, this does not work in all cases. My father weighed in at a hefty 14 pounds and 3 ounces at birth, and my mom weighed in at 9 pounds on the dot. I came in at 8 pounds and 3 ounces, obviously not the average of those two! (And I was a week late.)
To Beagledave and Mrs Beagledave: GOOD LUCK! Congratulations, and enjoy every stinky diaper and every 2 am feeding while you can!
To the other expectant mothers here: Good luck. Keep in mind that my father is just huge, no one in my family has been born that big since him. (I always thought he was a freak! )
Happy Baby!!!
Mrs. BD—labor in any position that feels best—on your side, hands and knees, squatting in, on or beside the bed—it’s your baby!
BD, I helped women labor who liked their lower back pushed on HARD, full-strength. Don’t be afraid to hands-on help! Make friends with your L&D RN and ask questions. She knows a lot of comfort measures for laboring moms that you never heard of.
