Back during...

****I have read a few news articles and message board posts that always start the same as the title of this thread.

I will start with today’s hot topic of Islam. I am not an Islamaphobe, I don’t care what deity you wish to pray to, but Damn! lay off the back then crap!

I know the Crusaders were not angels, I know the US South in the past were not tolerant, and I know Catholics and Protestants have disagreed in the past. What I have trouble with, is people always using those type of arguments to try to smooth over present arguments. ( I dunno, maybe these arguments are as valid now as then)

ISIS seems bad to me, maybe I’m wrong. When people say “Yep, they beheaded some folks, but damn, what did the crusaders do back in the early 1000’S?”

:smack:

We have come a long way since then.

I am getting a few years under my hat, but the arguments stay the same. “yes, whatever is bad. Back during some other whatever, it was worse.”

My question is, does this make a valid argument? I thought we should learn from the past so we do not repeat it.

What brought me to my agitated state.

Another story much like many other stories.

Maybe this should be in the Pit, I’m just tired of hearing the ("Back then… " arguments)
