Back in School after 24 years!

Inspired by some of my friends, and because my recent positions have exceeded my credentials, I’m back in school. Granted, it’s only community college where I can knock out some of my general ed credits on the cheap, but they will apply toward my bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership & Communications.

Tonight was my first night in class, and I nearly talked myself out of going. Afraid that most of the students were not yet born when I finished my associate’s degree and they’d be calling me “Pops” or something, combined with the notion that I’ve probably killed more brain cells during my prolonged & difficult “childhood” than they’ll lose in their lifetime almost kept me home.

But I went to class. It was kinda’ fun, kinda’ frightening but I feel good that I did it.

I just wanted to share that little accomplishment with my fellow dopers.

That’s great to hear. You’re never too young and all that, but you should get the most dap for going back. It’s hard to get back into it after you stop, especially for so long.

I think that’s great. Further education is never a bad idea. When I started out on my bachelor’s degree, I was only slightly older than most students – I was well into my 20s – but a couple of my fellow undergraduate students were in their 50s and even 60s. You’ll be surprised how quickly you’ll feel at home on your campus.
