Yep, I get to go to one of those fine bastions of liberalism and uphold what is right and good and true against the dread Communist faculty…
…err…
…OK, I’m going back to school starting Monday. This time it’s for real, unlike my last foray into higher education. I’m 10 years older, I’m 10 years wiser, I have a family that depends on me, and it’s my last chance to get it right. So, for my belated New Year’s Resolution, I would like it on the record that I will be graduating in approximately 4 years summa cum laude in Communications-Journalism and Political Science. That’s my goal, anyway.
I’ll tell you one thing, guys. If I blow this I’m going to crawl into a hole and pull the dirt in after me, because I will be condemning myself to eternal futility. After so long working my friggin’ butt off for peanuts I know what it means to try to get by without a diploma. Therefore, I shall endeavour to shut my mouth (ha!), give them what they want, and get out with everything intact, hopefully learning something along the way.
Wish me luck. It was once said to me that one should make their own luck, and I intend to, but a little well-wishing never hurt anyone.
You know I’m pulling for you 100%, Dave, so let me be the first to ask a question you’re going to get sick of: You got a family depending on you and you’re gonna study communications and poli sci?
Best of luck Airman! I’m considering the same thing (school while holding down a day job+family) and it’s scary as hell to consider it. I’ve no doubt you’ll do great.
Get yourself onto the college Parliamentary Debate Team as fast as you can. That’s the place to learn the skills you need. Ignore CETA debate…it teaches nothing useful.
Good luck! I went back to college in my late 20’s after dropping out 7 years earlier. The added maturity helped tremendously. You’ll do fine.
Good luck man. Just remember that a heck of a lot of your bachelors has nothing to do with life/work/anything. But that piece of paper does open doors.
I wish you all the best. Having a degree (or two) is almost always a big professional positive, and being back in school doesn’t seem to be a bad place to be during this economy. Work hard, and don’t forget to have a little fun too!
Good luck! Be sure to post a graduation picture because, well… back when I was a lurker, someone on here posted a picture of you barfing down the side of a truck. It would be nice to have a more uh, “positive” image of you when I see your name.
I should really go back to school and get my masters, but I’m too chicken - and unmotivated. I’m sure you’ll do great.
I’m sure the link is long gone and the pictures burned by now. I think they were from a DoperFest and are half the reason I finally joined this place. I mean, man, what a bunch of party animals.
