Back to the Nutcracker

I asked recently about the ballet “The Nutcracker Suite.” I got a lot of comments about the Mandela effect, but not a lot about “The Nutcracker.”

I would like a response from only those who have seen the performance first-hand, either on stage or on TV. My question is, do you remember the little girl’s name as “Clara,” or “Marie?” And in what year did you see it?

Just to be clear, I’m not interested in the answer you get if you look it up online.

I remember one from the '60s on TV and I believe the girl’s name was Clara, but only because you mentioned it.

Two words: deadly dull.

Clara. I’ve seen the ballet about 6 times. I love it.

Clara, seen it many times. Parts are good, parts should be left on the cutting room floor, YMMV.

Clara. I danced in the Nutcracker in college. (I was not Clara)

I’ve seen it several times, starting in the early '70s. It’s always been Clara. I’ve even sung and danced some excerpts, but our little girl didn’t have a name.

Have a daughter who loves the Nutcracker so have seen it many times. All the stage performances I’ve seen used Clara. Incidentally we also have had several book versions, these have all used Marie, much to the confusion of my daughter, so I always had to remember change it to Clara whenever I read them.

Clara.

It’s always been Clara in the ballet.

The Talespinners’ version (children’s story record) has it as Mary. (We owned the record when I was a child, so I knew from then.)

Oddly, the brother seems to always be Fritz.

My mother took us kids to see “The Nutcracker” at the Goodman Theater in Chicago when I was a kid. The girl’s name was Clara. My favorite part was Mother Ginger, with the children emerging from her enormous hoop skirts.
