The Nutcracker

So I’m taking my daughter to see the Nutcracker performance of the Cincinnati Ballet on Dec 18. Which besides being a week before Christmas is also her birthday. Just her and her daddy. She loves music, dancing and spectacles, I hope she’ll really enjoy it. Plus we’ll dine out somewhere downtown beforehand. That’s my big date for this month.

Me too, Shibb! I’m also taking my son. And my daughter has a Christmastime birthday, too! December 27. For her birthday, we’re throwing her a bowling party. How’s that for two extremes?

Are you coming up for the Cincinnati Ballet, or is there a production in Lexington? It’s cool that you’re taking your son. I would like to take mine but he’s only three and he had a rough time sitting still through a one hour play of the Velveteen Rabbit this past weekend, so I don’t think he’s ready for the Music Hall. It’s tough to tell with him, but he has been fascinated by both ballet and opera when he’s seen them on TV. They probably had swords.

We’ll have a party for my daughter the Sunday before her birthday, just a small thing, games, cake and ice cream. She’ll be six and this will be first really birthday party with guests that she’s chosen to invite.

I remember taking my daughter to the Nutcracker. She was taking ballet at the time, so, naturally, she dreamed of dancing in the Nutcracker. I waited too long to get tickets and we were sitting in the nosebleed row, but I still had good eyes in those days.

I don’t know how much she enjoyed it, since she switched to tap, then quit dancing altogether. Ah, kids…

Have fun, Shibb - Daddy-daughter stuff is great!

Neither, Shibb! We’re going to the Louisville Ballet. And my daughter is portraying the Sugarplum Fairy in her school’s first and second grader production of The Nutcracker. Boy does she have stars in her eyes!

My son is 4 and a half. I’m praying he’ll sit though it.
