This thread was posted a couple of weeks back; prehaps foolishly, like Dr. Frankenstein, I seek to give it new life. What was the worst insult to animation ever?
My nominee
“The Wacky World of Tex Avery”- It’s bad enough it ws unfunny, badly animated, and gnerally painful, but then they had to add TEX AVERY’s name to it! TEx Avery, one of the greatest animation directors of all time! Attatching his name to “Wacky” would be like…like…well, a good simile escapes me at the moment. Other Ideas?
Most 70’s Hanna Barbera is bad. The Tom & Jerry toons from the late 60’s (with the steel drums) sucked a lot. The Lost In Space cartoon was REALLY bad. Some of the 90’s CGI stuff like Reboot was difficult to watch.
Well, from a content standpoint there was a lot of total rubbish produced in the 80’s.
One that really stands out is a show called “Beverly Hills Teens” which was kinda like 90210 meets Ritchie Ritch. All the stereotypical high school kids (Various Preening Popular Girls, Surfer, Jock, Nerd, Bitch, Token, etc.) all super wealthy, driving limos to school and tossing cash and credit cards around. A reoccuring theme in this show was, rather than thinking their way out of a jam, charactors would spend their way out.
This show --way too politacally incorrect to be shown in reruns today-- is on the air dubbed into spanish on the local spanish language station! WTF?!
Got to teach the new immagrants to our country our values I guess.
