Bad first albums / great second albums?

David Bowie had a bunch of records of various sucess (plus the one big hit “Major Tom”) before “Ziggy Stardust” when he really started to take off (although I consider “Hunky Dory” one of his best albums.)

I think Ministry’s first album was actually pretty sucessful but they’d probably like it to be forgotton.

This is true. Billy was in 2 groups before he released CSH. The first group was called The Hassles. The other group was METAL group called Attila. Here’s a link to the cover art. Billy’s on the right.

Moving this from IMHO to Cafe Society.

Shouldn’t Springsteen be on this list? Greetings from Asbury Park didn’t make a dent. Born to Run had him hailed as the 3,752 “new Dylan.”

Interesting. I remember that album. Never listened to it, but I worked in a record store and I remember the cover.

Just looked it up in AMG:

They’re forgetting Lee Michaels, who was successful with that combination.

“Greetings” got good critical press, and sold adequately for a first album by an unknown. It also gave him the “New Dylan” label.
