One of the most successful hoaxes I ever perpetrated. There had been a horrible smell coming from a wall in our office. On April 1 I told several people that construction workers on the floor above had opened up the wall and found a dead body inside. The story spread rapidly and later that day I overheard a coworker on the phone with his mother, excitedly telling her about the dead body. At the end of the day I revealed that it was an April Fools joke, but the story still lives on in people’s memories. The smell was eventually resolved - I think it was a plumbing issue.

I made a shepherd’s pie for dinner but put a little pink food coloring in the mashed potato topping. The kids were wondering why I said it was all right for them to have “dessert” first.

My Uncle Fred and his wife Judy had a puppy which was a long way from being housebroken. Once, when Aunt Judy was out of the house, Fred put a spoonful of pumpkin-pie filling on the floor. When Judy got home he pretended to notice the “poop” for the first time, scolded the dog for having had another accident, then put a finger in the filling, put it in his mouth and said thoughtfully, “Not bad, though…”
