He made it very clear, right from the start, that he wasn’t going to put up with any bullshit on essays, tests, or exams. And he expected you to do the readings from the textbook and be prepared to discuss his questions about the readings in class. Yep, the Socratic Method in high school. He was tough, but damn! Did he ever challenge me, and did I ever learn a lot from him.

She was smart, funny, stood no nonsense, and was kind and supportive too. Some of us who are in touch after HS were very upset to hear some years ago that she died of cancer in her 50s.
