    Commissioned in 1912, the USS Texas served in both WWI and in all five theaters of WWII. During the Normandy Invasion, The Texas advanced to 3,000 meters – as close to shore as possible without beaching, flooded its starboard blister tanks to tilt the ship, and fired its guns further inland at enemy targets.
