Crash of 1959 in Clear Lake, Iowa which killed Ritchie Valens, J.P. Richardson (The Big Bopper) and Buddy Holly, dubbed “The day the music died” by Don MacLean in his song "American Pie"for its effect on popular music which is still felt today.
Crash on August 15, 1935 near Point Barrow, Alaska, resulting in the deaths of humorist Will Rogers and adventurer Wiley Post.

The survivors had little food and no source of heat in the harsh conditions at over 3,600 metres (11,800 ft) altitude. Faced with starvation and radio news reports that the search for them had been abandoned, the survivors fed on the dead passengers who had been preserved in the snow.

1972 Andes flight disaster - Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, also known as the Andes flight disaster.
USAirways 1549 - Jan 15th 2009 - Miracle on the Hudson. Flight powered through a gaggle of geese, causing it to lose ability to fly. Capt Chelsea “Sully” Sullenberger put the plane down in the Hudson river saving everyone on board. Sully went on to have rock-star god-like sex with his wife in the following months.
