Bakers Dozen

One of my favorite odd stories: after Farley died, I read in the New York Times that “Father Matt Foley” would be saying Farley’s funeral Mass.

I was sure that was a joke on someone’s part, but it wasn’t. In real life, Matt Foley was a buddy of Farley’s at Marquette University. Farley became an actor while Foley went to the seminary and became a priest.

Later, Farley named his best-known character after his old Marquette classmate.

I think it was Fernando Valenzuela. And I have no idea why I remember that, because I pretty much hate baseball.

  2. Tim Kazurinsky - Dr. Jack Buttoffsky
  3. Eddie Murphy - Buckwheat
  4. Gilda Ratner - Emily Litella
  5. Garrett Morris - Chico Escuela (“Bezball bin berry berry good to me.”)
  6. Mike Myers - Dieter
  7. Billy Crystal - Fernando

It wasn’t Valenzuela. His rookie year was 1981. In '81, Garrett Morris was already off SNL.
