  2. 1 Corinthians 15:51 - “Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed.”

My BIL put that on a sign over my infant niece’s diaper-changing table. Clever.

  3. I Timothy 6:1-5 - “… all who are under the yoke of slavery … who have believing masters … must serve all the better since those who benefit by their service are believers and beloved. Teach and urge these duties. If any one teaches otherwise … he is puffed up with conceit, he knows nothing; he has a morbid craving for controversy…, which produce envy, dissension, slander, base suspicions, and wrangling among men who are depraved in mind…”

Errr… no they didn’t, they made cameos as different characters.

In fact, Nolte and De Niro replaced Peck and Mitchum in their respective roles, and Martin Balsam’s character does not appear in Scorcese’s remake so he is cast as the judge.

  4. Matthew 7:1-5 - 1) Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2) For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again; 3) And why beholdest the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? 4) Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and behold, a beam is in thine own eye? 5) Thou hyprocrite, first cast out the beam that is in thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.

Lots of ways this could be interpreted: mind your own business; take a good look at the man in the mirror first; who are you to say what’s right and wrong; where do you get off telling someone else what they can or cannot do, or how they can or cannot behave or believe? It’s my belief this world would be measurably better off if everyone cleaned up their own house and never actually got around to policing the lives of others.
