Harold Russell, “The Best Years Of Our lives”
Double amputee WW2 vet playing a double amputee WW2 vet. He won two Oscar’s for the role, but did not continue acting.

Vincent Gallo, “Buffalo 66”
Haing S. Ngor, “The Killing Fields”
Harold Russell, “The Best Years Of Our lives”
Peter Ostrum, “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory”
After his first and only role as Charlie, he quit acting and became a veterinarian.

Haing S. Ngor, “The Killing Fields”
Harold Russell, “The Best Years Of Our lives”
Peter Ostrum, “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory”
Mark Lester, “Oliver”
Like Peter, he had the title role. Despite a few more roles, he had nothing to match Oliver.

Almost a cheat, since she died young, but she was ineffably creepy.

Like Lester, he never matched Fagin in another performance. In what he freely admits was a stupid career decision he turned down the chance to star in Doctor Who (I think this was when Tom Baker took it, might be wrong). Married for the first time at 62 and had 6 kids and still acts a bit in his early 90s. (Lester says he suspects he might be Paris Jackson’s bio father, btw.)

Jaye Davidson, “The Crying Game”
Was nominated for an Oscar in his film debut. Did one more movie (“Stargate”) and then said he didn’t like acting and quit the business.

When Oliver! came out, my mom was told by lots of folks how much I looked like Mark Lester: http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Media/Pix/pictures/2008/12/09/Oliver460.jpg
