Also, it’s not that hard to just look at a previous entry to get the link to any given song.

You kids nowadays, afraid to do a little work.

Owing to the needless expansion of the demands of what is supposed to be a fun, rather than burdensome topic, it is not surprising that there has not been a single compliant response in the past 24 hours.

Because it’s Memorial Day, a great veteran, famous or not
  14. Louis Zamperini

His story is told in Unbroken, a fine book by Laura Hillenbrand. The book was made into a film which according to reviews was just so-so.

  1. Louis Zamperini
  2. Simo “Simuna” Häyhä

Perhaps the world’s greatest sniper, with 505 confirmed kills during the Finland/USSR Winter War.

  1. Louis Zamperini
  2. Simo “Simuna” Häyhä
  3. Henry Johnson

The most distinguished of the “Harlem Hellfighters,” the 369th, an all-black regiment under the command of mostly white officers. On watch in the Argonne Forest on May 14, 1918, Johnson fought off a German raid in hand-to-hand combat, killing multiple German soldiers and rescuing a fellow soldier while experiencing 21 wounds. For this feat he was awarded the French Croix de Guerre in the same year. US military recognition came much later: he was awarded the Purple Heart in 1996, the Distinguished Service Medal in 2003 and the Congressional Medal of Honor in 2015.

  6. Desmond Doss

When his company assaulted an enemy position on an escarpment in Okinawa they took heavy fire. Doss stayed in the line of fire, carried each of the 75 wounded to the edge of the cliff, and lowered them in a litter down a rope to safety. In the following week he advanced under fire to positions within 25 feet of the enemy to tend to wounded soldiers and pulling seven of them to safety in three separate incidents.

Two weeks later he was wounded while attending to a soldier, dressed his own wounds, and waited five hours until he could be extracted by a litter bearer. Seeing a more gravely wounded soldier he crawled off the litter and instructed the litter bearers to tend to the other man. Doss got shot again for his troubles.

And Doss did it all without bearing weapons - except to bind a rifle stock to his own broken arm. He was a Conscientious Objector. And was awarded a Medal of Honor for his actions.
