Actually, named for “Tampa Bay”, a body of water and a regional designation. MLB has a rule that a team cannot be named for a “place” where the ballpark is not located. So the Florida Marlins could not become the Miami Marlins until they built a new stadium inside Miami city limits. The Angels, playing in Ahameim, have to be “The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim”.
