Wild and unrestrained, in Douglas, Arizona. At the time, thought to be the first one ever seen north of the Mexican border.

My mother’s next door neighbors have a little boy who wanted to plant a tree. “Trees help the earth!” So he stuck a stick in her garden, which she was nice enough to leave there.

In the garden of a beautiful elegant mansion in Mexico City. They called her Mama Puma and she was old, blind and on a long chain, very odd to see in a garden.

In a duplex, our neighbor planted kohlrabi in our shared garden. My mom loved them (we all did), so they became one of our principal crops.
