  3. Jack Nicholson, “As Good as it Gets”.

I loved that picture, ,but thought Nicholson’s completely unbelievable and overplayed character was its only weak point.

Not that it was a bad film, but much of its competition was more deserving (Avatar, District 9, Inglorious Basterds, and Up)

The Color Purple, nominated for 11 Oscars but not receiving any, and Director Steven Spielberg did not even get a best director nomination? That is so ridiculous!

He imitated Ray Walston throughout it.

Performances or Movies that SHOULD Have Been Nominated For an Oscar But Weren’t

  1. Chadwick Boseman, Get On Up

The movie was a mess- no idea why they allowed that non-linear and headache inducing script- but Boseman’s James Brown was brilliant and he wasn’t even nominated.
ETA: This is completely subjective, obviously; if you feel Porky’s 2 should be in this category you don’t have to justify it.

Performances or Movies that SHOULD Have Been Nominated For an Oscar But Weren’t

  1. Chadwick Boseman, Get On Up
  2. Gary Oldman, The Contender (2000)

Oldman’s a great actor and he was long overdue for a nomination (at minimum) by 2000.

Performances or Movies that SHOULD Have Been Nominated For an Oscar But Weren’t

  1. Chadwick Boseman, Get On Up
  2. Gary Oldman, The Contender (2000)
  3. Judy Parfitt, Dolores Claiborne

With relatively little screen time she made Vera Donovan believable, nasty, loathsome, complex, supportive, subdued-but-vibrant, and sympathetic. An incredible performance that could have been way over the top with a less skilled actress.

  2. Gary Oldman, The Contender (2000)
  3. Judy Parfitt, Dolores Claiborne
  4. Barbra Streisand, director, The Prince of Tides

The multiple-award-winning movie that, presumably, directed itself.
