Winston Churchill was famous for his drinking, although most historians believe it was exaggerated. Yes, he often had a whiskey-and-soda in his hand, but it was much more soda than whiskey. Still, he did drink, and it bothered British temperance societies that the British prime minister, a man all Brits, but especially young Brits, looked up to, had a reputation as a heavy drinker. As a result, members of one temperance society visited him at his office at 10 Downing Street to complain about his drinking. One member scolded him by saying, “Why Mr. Churchill, I bet you have imbibed enough alcohol to fill up nearly half of this room.” Churchill gazed at the ceiling and muttered, “So much to do, so little time.”
