Things that went wrong (major and minor) with the Apollo moon missions: Apollos 11 - 17.

  1. Apollo 14 - Landing radar not functional until a minute before landing, which almost resulted in an abort.
  2. Apollo 12 - First color television camera on lunar surface, but transmission lost because accidentally pointed toward sun and sensor destroyed.
  3. Apollo 13 - Oxygen tank failure meant abort of the lunar landing mission. Thankfully, the crew returned to Earth safely.
  4. Apollo 11 - Buzz Aldrin’s urine collection bag ruptures during landing; the second human to set foot on the lunar surface does so with urine sloshing inside his left boot.
  5. Apollo 11 - With no atmosphere, moon dust scattered at ballistic speed and threatened to damage the spacesuits.
  6. Apollo 17 - Launch delayed by two hours and forty minutes due to an automatic cutoff in the launch sequencer at the T-30 second mark in the countdown.
  7. Apollo 12 - Lightning hit on vehicle during 1st stage climb trips the CSM power circuits. “SCE to AUX” solution saves the day
  8. Apollo 15 - Lost one of three parachutes but still splashed down safely
  9. Apollo 14 - The first golf ball ever hit on the moon landed ingloriously in a crater; a challenging lie if ever there was.
  10. Apollo 11- The Navigational Computer flashed a 1202 alarm, caused by too many commands being loaded into it.
  11. Apollo 11 - Neil Armstrong bungled his immortal first sentence on the moon.
  12. Apollo 17 - A hammer in the suit of Gene Cernan caught on a fender of the lunar rover and snapped it. Gene and Harrison Schmitt repaired it with a laminated map and duct tape.
