(Too bad it didn’t say relative. The son of a direct ancestor of mine was appointed collector of the tax in New Haven under the infamous Tax Stamp Act. He had to ride up to Hartford quickly in order to resign his commission. His son later served on the Constitutional Convention that wrote the U.S. Constitution as a representative from Pennsylvania.)
