Montreal was apparently a little unclear on how “retiring” a number worked

Except for players who were already wearing 42 when they retired it; there is still one active player who has it. I wonder if the team will one day retire it to honor both Jackie and Mariano Rivera.

There is a slight difference, in Mariano Rivera’s case, if they were to retire his number, it would only be presumeably by the Yankees.

MLB annouced the retiring of the number for the league. Basically, no one league-wide will ever wear #42 again.

I thought that I was making that very point, but on review, it seems that I did not.
