Strangely enough, The Bay City Rollers did name themselves after an American city. But it was Bay City, Michigan not San Francisco. They supposedly chose the name at random by throwing a dart at a map of the United States.
Bay City’s other connection to pop music is it’s Madonna’s birthplace.
