World Events you will never forget where you were.
Space Shuttle Challenger–I was in 12th Grade English Lit Class
9/11 - Watching in the conference room at work. Sent everyone home at 11am.
The Berlin wall coming down. Never in my wildest imagination could I have thought that possible.
The attempted Reagan assassination. I was in 11th grade French class.
The Columbia Space Shuttle Disaster – I was on my way to the office. I told my boss there; she wasn’t aware it’d happened.
The first Moon landing - I was in summer camp. We all gathered in the Big Barn to watch on a little black & white TV.
The John F. Kennedy assassination. I was in 4th Grade, in the Break Room. The TV news came on, and everyone was thunderstruck.
The shooting of John Lennon (I was in an elevator at Columbia University when I heard about it).
President Nixon’s resignation speech, Aug. 8, 1974 - We were at a beach house with no TV or radio. My dad asked the entire family to join him in the car to listen, and told us, “Pay attention, kids - this is history. This is important.”

Japan earthquake and tsunami (11 Mar 2011) - I was at work on the night shift. CNN had a Japanese news helicopter showing live footage of the waves rolling in from half a world away.

NYSE Stock Market Collapse following Lehman Bros Bankruptcy (15 Sept, 2008) - Realizing that I was screwed in my new job (selling ads on an internet newspaper nobody had ever heard of (Topix.com)), but salivating over potential stock buying opportunities that were sure to open up over the next months/years.

The election of Pope John Paul II (I was a senior in high school, sitting in the school library; one of the Jesuit teachers walked into the library, and said to the nun who was our librarian, “How many Popes does it take to screw in a light bulb?”)
