Bald Eagle - I think.

If I am not mistaken, this is an immature bald eagle.

It scares the HELL out of my cats.

And I thought the squirrels in the bird feeder were bad…
.

Here’s a little encouragement for them…

Ding! Ding! Ding! Looks like we have a weener!

Your cats are wise. Ever watch a bald eagle rip apart a sheep carcass? Brrr.

Very true. You can almost hear it saying, “You’re a poopy monkey!”

Ever see a raven pluck at an eagle’s tail feathers? How do they get away with that?

By working in pairs and being a billion times smarter than the eagle.

So are eagles dumb? Do we have an idiot for our national bird? Just curious…

I live in an area with a lot of bald eagles and I’d say it is an immature bald eagle. (I’m not really an expert in bird identification, but, except for the coloration, it looks like an adult bald eagle.)
(Edit: I see that Tupug Anachi’s link seems to confirm it as an immature bald eagle.)

No, but ravens really are at the top end of avian smarts. (I have a friend who’s has a couple of them as pets.)

Among other things they have superb reaction time and a notable ability to figure out how good other critters are at this. So, for example, they can stand within about 4mm of the range at which a dog could grab them, but always be able to jump out of the way if the dog tries.

Sometimes it’s hard to tell it’s a bald eagle because it combs feathers over from the side.

Gorgeous, beautiful bird. You are very lucky to have him as a visitor.

I like your kitties too!! (Saw their pics on Flickr.)

Do you think its pining for the fjords?

Oooh, what a beautiful bird!

We can has YOUR SOUL?

Ok. That cat is nuts.

Although it hasn’t terrorized the cats in a couple of days, we’re still calling it “Scooter.”

Kinda like this?

I don’t know if I’ll see him again, but he was a stunning bird. I just hope he doesn’t snag a cat for the road. The kitties thank you for the compliment.

Those are the good cats. This one is the evil one.
