So I was at this club, and the DJ played a nice tune, so I ambled over to him and asked what it was. He showed me the LP briefly, and said it was the first track, and I thought he said “Dandy Warhols” – he even said it twice, but the music was pretty loud.
I don’t know the DW well at all, but at the time I thought it sounded plausible. The song was pretty easy indie rock, male singer, not too noisy, melodic – musically something in the region of Snow Patrol, The New Pornographers, Beulah, Built to Spill, Eels, Elbow, Electric Soft Parade, The Good Life or The Shins, to mention a few.
However, after looking them up, I don’t recognize the cover among their discography. The cover he showed me had the painting of a large flower, possibly a lily, yellowy with a Van Gogh-ish background of blue and purple, I believe. Well, it was dark. No lettering or anything identifying the band, as far as I could see.
Oddly enough, DW’s Welcome to the Monkey House album, with its banana-on-black motif, does look a little like that, but I distinctly remember the cover as being colourful.
Anyone?
