Bands/Artists whos fans are even more annoying than the band itself....

You’re right, this is getting a bit silly. Tell you what, Marley, I’ll concede they were important and influential if you admit that some of their fans take it a bit far. Fair?

Tool fans have a pretty bad reputation for claiming that Maynard is the greatest thing since… the previous greatest thing. Even worse, IMO, are the pseudo-intellectuals who overanalyze the lyrics and “double meanings” and the messages in all the songs; I have to wonder if they’re even enjoying it anymore.

Well I’m a deadhead and i have to agee with them being outed. Sometimes I wonder, earth to deadhead, earth to deadhead…

I came here to nominate Jimmy Buffet fans, but someone beat me to it. He’s just a singer people, put away the ugly shirts and sober up.

May i nominate a genre…indie music fans? I’m on another local board here and you’d think these new bands that you’ve never heard of, that have sold a total of about 13 cds, that will either break up in 5 months or the lead singer will OD are the second coming of Christ. uff…

Would it invoke Godwin’s Law if I nominated Wagner devotees?

Blimey. Look what I started. I’m right behind most of these (BTW the Beatles were ok when they didn’t have any facial hair - once that arrived they went down hill fast).

I’m suprised that no one has mentioned white rap fans - with their adoption of ludicrous (or ludacris) “urban” style whilst living in comfortable white suburbs (or here in England in small market towns), and it’s even worse when they adopt the “Ali G” accent. Pull your trousers up chaps!

New Order Yes, I like moody, gothic music on occasion. No, I don’t think they’d have made music what it would have been if (insert pop act here) didn’t make it big.

Tool Now this I just don’t get. I can’t make sense of the lyrics when they’re printed, let alone spoken (I hesitate to say “sung”). Was I ever that angry as a teen? I don’t think so.

66 posts and no one has mentioned the Kiss Army???

::re-reads the OP::

Oh wait, the fans have to be even more annoying than the band?

Never mind.

Moody, gothic music? Maybe their early stuff and especially when they were still Joy Division. I’m not the biggest NO fan in the world or anything (I don’t think I even own a full length), but most of their stuff has always been upbeat, dancy rock-synthpop.

I think even more annoying than Rush fans are Rush haters. I mean, these people have a knee-jerk reaction to hearing the word Rush. they have such energy and passion invested in their contempt for a band that they simultaneously will tell you faded into obscurity along with the Carter administration. That band is so irrelevant that it makes spittle fly from these folks lips! If a career could be made in hating a band, these people would have their resume and three references in hand in a heartbeat.

It’s probably a good idea with any active hatred that you have to figure out why you even bother.

The Grateful Dead
Phish

and…

Insane Clown Posse, winners, hands-down.

Their fans look like this:

The stupidity of these “juggalos” can be found by googling anything juggalo related.

ICP gets banned from venues because of their fans. They are generally white-trash, hillbilly kids, who enjoy professional wresting and dropping out of high school. They are worse than hippies. And I can’t stand hippies.

How dare you?! Maynard is GOD; you’re just too dumb to “get it”.

Oh, wait…

I’m a fan, but I’m not that fan.

Two words: “FREE BIRD!!!”

But as annoying as I find the fans of some of the bands mentioned, I find the haters of those bands even more annoying. Lynyrd Skynyrd was a great band saddled with more than their share of idiot fans and more than their share of idiot Skynyrd haters who think anyone who likes them is a drooling redneck. The Beatles haters drive me nuts - it’s one thing to say the music is not your style and you don’t like it, but it’s another to sneer and say, “The Beatles? They were nothing, man. King Crimson kicked their ass. So did Queen. The Beatles are the most over-hyped band, ever.”

Rush is another band that may have annoying fans, but also has equally annoying haters who go way out of their way to denigrate anything the band has done.

My roommate freshman year of college was a HUGE Beatles fan. HUGE!!!

I’m pretty meh on the Beatles. I really like some of their songs, but I don’t own any Beatles albums or anything. I don’t have anything really against them, though.

Anyway, I made the mistake once of telling my roommate that I didn’t really like the song “Yesterday.” I think it’s inane. In retribution, she put it on the CD player on repeat. I was doing something I couldn’t leave the room for, so I had to sit there, as “Yesterday” played eight times in a row until she wandered out of the room and I was able to turn it off.

It’s possible my roommate was just psycho, but I’ve known other Beatles fans whom I think would do the same thing given a chance.

I’m a BIG Beatles fan and even I think “Yesterday” sucks walrus ass. There’s been over 3000+ covers of this song and it NEVER GETS BETTER.

Fuck, man. I simply adore The Smiths.

I like Radiohead a lot too. Given that I like the annoying-as-shit Björk, her duet with Thom York (“I’ve Seen It All”) made me giddy.

I also like prurient and obnoxious cock rawk, and can be seen on many occasions still playing air-guitar in my living room while screaming along with “She’s Got Balls” turned up to 11. Am I absolved?

Another vote for ICP… mostly for how being a fan destroyed my cousin’s life. He’s still working on rebuilding it.

Don’t just leave us hanging. How did being a Juggalo ruin your cousin’s life? Details, please!

Who the fuck are the Insane Clown Posse - they obviously don’t do transatlantic!

Heh heh heh. If you think you don’t get Americans now…

Here’s a Wikipedia article about the group, because I don’t know where else to look and absolutely don’t want to try. It puts an extremely positive light on things, but I guess it’d give you a rough idea.
