Bands similar to The Offspring

Lately I have really been getting into the Offspring. The fast paced punk rock music and the lyrics about alienation, rejection, confusion, etc. have been really good. The albums ‘rise and fall, rage and grace’ and ‘americana’ are the best of the ones I’ve been listening to lately (each with numerous good songs), but the others hover between decent and fairly good.

So what bands have similiar music and lyrical styles that I should look into? I’m trying to listen to some Rancid and the Ramones, but am new to both bands.

Blink-182 and Green Day would be the two bands that immediately come to mind. If you liked Americana, I think Green Day’s American Idiot is thematically similar (and, personally, I think a far better album musically and lyrically, but YMMV.)

Oh yeah, I’ve loved The Offspring for a while now. Other bands that I think are similar are Rage Against The Machine, System of a Down, Cake, and Korn.

Okay I just realized that The Offspring have been around for 15 years. My head just asploded. God I am OLD.

Give a listen to Against Me! and NOFX.

Bad Religion. They also were the only group besides The Offspring to be featured in Crazy Taxi.

Pennywise
NOFX

Definitely Pennywise.

Give Rise Against a try, as well.

25 years. They were a local southern california band for 10 years before going mainstream in the early 90s.

Christ. I guess I’ll just go ahead and buy some navy blue synthetic slacks that come up to just under my giant Playtex 18 Hour Bra. I give up.

For bands like the Offspring, look at more [Southern] California punk bands, especially for similar themes. Some of these have already been mentioned - Blink-182, NOFX, Green Day, Pennywise, and Bad Religion. There’s a chance you might also like Social Distortion, The Vandals, or The Ataris.

You know you’re old when a bad that’s been mainstream famous for over 15 years, you consider to be “new music”. Ack.

How about The Dickies? I saw them, Offspring, and Lit together.

Maybe for Rwnwss! The Cult’s Electric Album, the Danzig album, or th3e best of ACDC. They are not exactly the same, but the energy you are wishing for is there.

Definitely seconding Bad Religion and Pennywise.

Specifically good albums to try:

Bad Religion-Stranger Than Fiction
Pennywise-About Time

Some good bands mentioned here (in particular Bad Religion), but so far no mention of The Bronx. They fucking rule.

And hey, no mention yet of Gorilla Biscuits or CIV.

Also, you could think of it as a more updated version of that sound in bands like Every Time I Die.

I’m afraid to recommend too much more because I’ll start to stray into much heavier territory prolly.

Seconding Green Day and Pennywise while adding MxPx, who toured with The Offspring in the 2000s.

Video for MxPx’s “Responsibility”:

In addition to the others mentioned, here are a few more that you might enjoy (if you don’t already):

Newer:

Puddle of Mudd
Ludo
My Chemical Romance
Fall Out Boy
Cake

Older:

Belly
Cracker
Dramarama
Smithereens
Rancid

Some good recommendations here I’d never heard of before. Good Charlotte and Papa Roach also come to mind.

I can’t believe no one has mentioned Operation Ivy…
