There are a lot of bands mentioned already that are of the type of band I thought of immediately. Bands whose music isn’t objectionable when I come across it, most of whose hits I know and yet I am as likely to buy their product or see them live as I am to get a facial tattoo. And yet there are no bands here that I wouldn’t go to watch for free although many such bands exist including some I wouldn’t walk across the street to see.
I always ask, overrated by WHOM?
If you mean overrated by the critics, then definitely REM. Good band, bur ridiculously overpraised by critics.
If you mean overrated by excessively worshipful fans, I’d say Rush. Again, a very good band, but some of their fans take Geddy, Alex and Neil far more seriously than the boys take themselves.
If you mean overcovered by the media in general, how can you not pick the Beatles? I love the Beatles, but they themselves would have told you the hype they received was absurd.
If you mean, “All the people in my circle of friends seem to loooove this band, but I think they’re just okay,” then I nominate the Police.
Define “overrated” before you name an artist r act.
Overrated, for me, meand that the band is good, but not tattoo-their-names-on-my-penis good.
