Once Comcast throws down a line, their operating cost is fixed. Whether I decide to upload a single byte or my entire hard drive makes no difference because they pay for capacity. Lets not even get started that Comcast’s typical connection runs at about 20% of the advertised speed - upload speeds are throttled severely below promised rates.
Fuck, guys, I’m really sorry if I’m getting a little touchy. I really hate traffic, you know? It might raise my taxes to put in another lane on the thoroughfare, though. Much easier just to make gas more expensive and lower the speed limits.
I just signed up for Comcast cable internet yesterday. I asked the guy about the 250-gig cap, and he said he never heard of such a thing. Was he lying to me?
No. It’s not like every employee is going to instantly know all new company policies.
I had a Sprint Mobile Broadband account that was unlimited. They changed their terms to a 5GB per month limit. So, per the language in our agreement, a material change was made to our agreement so I was allowed to cancel our 2-year contract without penalty. Except the person I spoke to on the phone had never heard of the 5GB limit. I told them politely that I was reading it right on my Sprint bill. She spoke to her supervisor about it and it was confirmed, so they allowed me to cancel without penalty.
It is a very real possiblity that you spoke to an incompetent rep.
Or that the rep wasn’t updated on the publicly announced cap. I remember some articles that the author called the comcast helpline multiple times, and got very many different responses to a bandwidth cap.
You can go through that watching 2 DVD quality films (at 4 Gb) every day. I don’t do that, but it’s not impossible, especially considering blue-ray movies are going at something like 10Gb or more.
That’s rich. Here in the modern world of Australia with my new fangled ADSL I could download about half of that per month, if I downloaded flatout 24 hours a day all month. I get a rousing 50kB/s when I’m lucky. BitComet right now (midday on a Saturday) is getting 30.
