It’s quite common here (particularly in GQ) for certain questions to be responded to with “You know, you should really have Googled that first”, or “The search engine is your friend”.
How about a middle ground solution for certain questions? I’m thinking here or something along the lines of the SDMB providing a list of Dopers sorted by their respective professions or areas of expertise who would be willing to receive and answer questions directly via email. Dunno if it’s workable or not, but I thought I’d just run it up the flagpole and see who salutes…
That is actually a pretty cool idea. Those dopers may get overwhelmed but if there where enough of them it would be no problem.

Nah, I don’t think it’s that good an idea. First of all, there is the SDStaff, for all those questions that need some digging to answer. Then there’s the boards for discussion and all of those experts to post their say. But for the specific example you quote - the “you should have googled that first” types - what good would it do having an expert list of emails? They’d just get emailed the same stupid gry question. There’s really no way to keep stupid/clueless people from doing their thing.
