There’s a picture of a “Spocked bill at the link”.
There are better examples elsewhere. The one at the top of this page in particular: Jordan Poole +300 To Win NBA Sixth Man Of The Year - yournewswire
Stupid question: how did this trend start? I didn’t find an explanation in your link, and a quick search shows that Mr. Nimoy was American.
It is funny, though.
I assume someone noticed a resemblance between Sir Wilfrid Laurier and Nimoy and thought it would be funny to do this, and then it caught on.
Canada gets a lot of the same TV as the US, plus the movies were shown worldwide (I think), so it’s not surprising that Spock would have fans there.
Those crazy Canadians. What will they think of next?
I hadn’t heard about this practice, until this five-year-old thread popped up (apparently in response to Nimoy’s death):

I assume Canada brought it up again because people have been doing this (or perhaps just noticing it more) since Nimoy’s death.
I’ve had a couple of Canadian fivers in my wallet for at least five years, and they’re still as good as new!
Those bills wouldn’t be circulating long anyways as they’re the old version. The new polymer ones have a different portrait of Sir Wilfred.
I’ve been saving my fives… so I can give them to your mom! OOOOOUUUUUU!!
