I’ve had a check card from my bank for six months now.
Now, in my billing statement, I suddenly am charged a dollar fee for “safekeeping.” What is this all about?

They’ve been keeping you safe for the past year. You’re still in good health, right? Well, now you know why.
Bossk, I had that show up in my statement last month as well (USBank in Colorado, for what it’s worth). It was for $1. It really bugs me when money is drawn out of my account by my bank without my permission (er, not that it happens that often) so I gave them a call. I was told that “Safekeeping Fee” was their name for the process of giving me my cancelled personal checks back in the mail. They had previously provided this service for free.
And if they didn’t give you your cancelled checks back, they’d charge you a ‘Storage Fee’. Damn banks
My bank charges you a fee if you call in to the automated teller to check on your account status, which used to be free.
Banks have it made! They can charge you dozens of fees and get away with it. I once got a money order from mine and was charged $2 for it when I could have gone to the nearby 7-11 store and paid $0.67!!
I figure it’s only a matter of time before they start charging you a fee for walking into the places, for occupying space while standing in line and an extra surcharge if your teller smiles at you.
