Well, I did put a potato in their tailpipe after evryone else left …
I suppose they would because they are friends with the other people there, regardless of how the administration at the SDMB feels about them.
Well, I could understand that. But what if they obviously aren’t?
Then they probably wouldn’t have any reason to come…
Extremely anti-Semitic poster.
I wouldn’t think that the really bad, obvious JerksTM would show up, like say, Jack Dean Tyler or Mark Serlin.
I recall you having a slightly different reaction upon seeing Melin at DopeToberFest.
Is this really the thread in which we want to start rehashing past grievances?
How ever did he escape your clutches?
Was he Banned on the run?
Nah, UB just Winged him.
You know what would be awesome? A DopeFest in which every single banned person was invited!
Cmon, that’d be a hoot! I’d do it.
[Let’s have it at RTFirefly’s house.]
It would be easy to avoid JDT, however. Just look for the guy walking oddly because of his tug-ahoy.
Hehehehehhe…
I wonder how banned people know there’s gonna be a dopefest? I mean, do you think they still keep up with the boards? Imagine how frustrating that would be to have the perfect response in mind and not be able to post it. That is, unless they’re all sock puppets.
I know that some exiled (or self exiled) still monitor the boards. OR at least did.
I don’t know… Opal might know, since her place seems to attract quite a few of the Banned/exiled.
The banned/exiled over at fathom usually behave themselves, fortunately. Sometimes the really bad ones show up, but they don’t typically stay. Mark Serlin showed up for a while, but when no one took his crap, he left. JDT never showed up, than god! heh.
Quite often the people hosting dopefests announce them at fathom as well. Word of mouth is another way.
Lest people walk away with the impression that “the SDMB makes monsters out of normal people”, or “the mods must have unujustly banned these nice, well-behaved people”, I fell the need to publicly disagree with you, Opalcat. The posters that were banned from the SDMB often behave exactly in the same way at Fathom as they did over here (sock puppets, drunken posts trying to start fights, illogical arguments that irritate the other posters, long-winded paranoid screeds, etc…)
Fathom has different rules in what is acceptable posting, and that’s fine. But it’s not like people that were devils over here magically became angels over there.
Of course, the words “devil” and “angel” were poorly chosen. Let me change that to “It’s not like the posters that behaved in a certain manner over here magically changed over there.”
Since you did so publicly, can you cite some examples? Seems pretty unfair to say every one of them has done that. Perhaps they have more freedom or can start with a clean slate, but have there really been so many instances where jerks here were jerks there?
I said often, not always. Do you really want me to bring up examples? (I’m starting to regret this post already.)
You’re right, you did. My mistake. Still, it’s not fair to say that even “often” this is the case. As you pointed out, Fathom has different rules. Therefore I’m not sure one can say that because Poster A behaved badly here, they’re behaving badly there - different standards are applying.
In an amazing bit of irony, he was the “Guest of the Day” according to the sign in the hotel lobby, too.
