I enjoy reading the threads on the SDMB, and replying when I can be helpful - I hope! Two questions:
1.) What are “views”? It’s driving me nuts! I understand “Reply’s”, but what are “views”?
2.) I gain tremendous enjoyment from following the trials and tribulations of “peace”. Personally, I think he’s probably a lonely, bored, genius, and really enjoys tormenting everyone on the boards who are so eager to take his bait. :smiley: But, I notice that it now says “banned” under his name, and yet he still seems to be able to post? Is he officially banned? How can he post? And most importantly, because I missed it somehow, what did he do to get banned, or what do you have to do in general to get banned? Not that I want to get banned of course.

To get banned, you have to be a real jerk. For a prolonged period of time. Guess what peace did :wink:

You can still see his posts, but he can’t post anymore. His old posts just remain visible.

  1. Views refers to how many times a thread has been clicked on.

  2. Sigs and member stats are updated, as per current information. Peace would have made those posts at a time that he was not banned. When he was banned, his old posts remained, but his description was changed to reflect the fact that he is now banned.

Thanks! Sorry to hear Peace is gone - not because he wasn’t a real jerk for a prolonged period of time, but he did provide good entertainment value. It’s kind of like losing a goiter that you’d become accustomed to, I imagine, since I’ve never had a goiter :). The PIT just won’t be the same…

Asking about banning puts you on the “watched” list.
For example, are you related to Adolph Peewee? Do you share a computer?

If so, they will now send a notice to both of you that you cannot post until you “explain” yourselves.

Just because Coldfire says “To get banned, you have to be a real jerk. For a prolonged period of time.” doesn’t mean it’s true.

Take [hijack] for example.

Where do I begin…

  1. Never believe any poster who claims to know the intricacies of how this board is run when they haven’t even been a registered member for 24 hours. Oh lemme guess, you just registered but you’ve been lurking for a long time.

  2. [hijack] was a jerk for a prolonged period of time. That poster was a jerk under another nickname. Under several nicknames in fact. So Coldie didn’t lie at all.

  3. There is no “watched” list. Yeah, like there’s a super secret list of loser posters that only the mods and little me know about.

  4. We haven’t sent a notice to anyone demanding that they “explain” themselves. You’re talking out your little ass, little me.

  5. General whining about how this board is run belongs in the Pit. If you’ve been lurking for a long time you’d know that, little me.

  6. As Coldie said, you really need to make a deliberate effort to piss off the people who run this board in order to get banned. This is demonstrated by a blatant and repeated disrespect for the rules of our board.

  7. If you don’t like the way this board is run, feel free to find another board. The SDMB ain’t for everyone…

  1. You say don’t believe him, he just got here.
    But, you insist he’s really been around here a long time; that’s proof enough for me that he does know what he’s talking about.

  2. [hijack] wasn’t a jerk under that name. If he was a jerk under another name you can’t tell us, so Coldie is quite free to lie, he’s always covered.

  3. There is most certainly a “watched” list. Are you telling me little me didn’t just get on it? I don’t believe that for a second. You just said you kept a list to connect [hijack] to, since he didn’t make any even mild posts with that name.

  4. Better check with TubaDiva on that one. I got such an email.

  5. It’s not general whining about how this board is run when a mod makes an untrue statement and you call him on it.

  6. There have been plenty of people “banned in error” as I discovered after it happened to me.

  7. If you don’t like being held responsible for your posts then maybe you shouldn’t be a mod. The SDMB mod position ain’t for everyone… There are plenty of honest SDMB mods.
    They just don’t join in on troll hunts.
