You’ve heard the jokes about how Bill Clinton was our first black president. But I’ve actually heard a lot lately that make the two seem comparable:
[ul]
[li]Themes of hope and change.[/li][li]Coming from a political background that some see as inexperienced (a comparison Bill himself made last night).[/li][li]Having personal backgrounds based in relative poverty and/or obscurity (i.e. not from a wealthy or politically connected family).[/li][li]Youth and vitality (especially when compared to their Republican opponent).[/li][li]Somewhat unhinged dislike by their ideological opponents (including, as I mentioned in this thread, accusations of murder).[/li][/ul]
And it feels like there are more I’m not thinking of at the moment.
Do you think there are strong comparisons to be made between the two, either personally OR politically? If so, does this say anything about their campaigns, or the eventual result? I ask because sometimes I wonder if folks pick up on this stuff, especially with all the media attention putting the names “Clinton” and “Obama” together, and further wonder if it, on some level, affects how they’re seen, for good or ill.
