Just saw this movie on payperview and loved it! Cedric the Entertainer was great as “Eddie”. If you saw this, what did you think? Any particular favorite scenes?
I saw it in the theater when it first came out; thought it was a very good, heart-warming movie with some funny and some poignant scenes. Of course, it’s been some time, so I can’t remember a lot of details.
Yeah it was excellent. I was shocked that Eve could act and i loved the whole ‘who drank my apple juice’ thing. Really funny. I didnt really like the bits with the ATM machine though but otherwise, great stuff.
Cedric stole the show. Jesse Jackson! HA!
I guess it’s safe to say watson isn’t Rosa Parks.
The ATM adventure was my favorite part.
Excellent, excellent movie. Ice Cube was his usual squinty, sullen self in a lot of it, but it worked wonderfully for his part. Cedric’s accent bugged the shit out of me for a while, but his treatise on the Three Things Black People Need To Know made me laugh out loud.
I watched it with a couple of wine-spritzer-drinking uber-Caucasians, though, and I don’t think they found it very funny at all.
Their loss.
I thought it was pretty good-- a lot of it did make me laugh out loud, and Ice Cube actually did well in an earnest role, which surprised me. A few other surprises were that the ATM-stealing duo never did get a payoff after all their suffering (not to mention that you see the impact of their crime on the victim); that the black-acting white guy was, in the end, treated with dignity; that Eve dumped her jerk boyfriend without immediately falling into the arms of her foreign admirer just because he was sweet; and on the whole that the movie stayed away from reinforcing 'hood stereotypes (or laughed at them).
Most interesting, to me anyhow. Was the amazing restraint of viloence and bad language.
I almost feel sorry for David Keith though. Now when I hear his voice, all I can hear is Cedric’s colourfull nomenclature.
Sorry, this comment bothers me. Why exactly would one have expected this movie to be full of violence and bad language?
The scenes in the barbershop were the best. I could have watched that all day.
Does anything else think that this setting and these characters would make a good TV series? (you’d have to have C the E in it, of course)
Kyomara…
Probably because almost all of Ice Cubes productions up to this point have been full of language and violence…
I’ll second Diogenes here, but in addition to Cedric, we need to require Eve as well. She was fine fine fine fine in that role. I’m a little peeved that IRL she has such a crazy fashion sense. (I actually didn’t know who she was before the film, a little searching on eonline.com and elsewhere got me the real deal).
I actually wish I could go to a barbershop like it right now!
Barbershop was supercool! I loved Cedric, and the other barbers had good chemistry.
You got Real Life Flanders Flock Friends? Wow, and here I thought I was the only one.
I got neighbors that are so white they are clear. Truly, they would not get this movie.
Heh. Talk about thin skinned. The “criticism” in that movie was so tongue in cheek. I thought all of the hoopla was ridiculous. I was glad when it was firmly ignored by audiences.
This was a good movie.
I can’t wait to see it.
Ice Cube isn’t my most favorite rap-star-turned-actor (he is still behind LL Cool J and Ice-T) but I like him.

I’m white and I “got” the movie. The movie is all about a day in the life of characters whose lives intersected at the barbershop. This is an oversimplification, obviously, but I enjoyed the movie.
Could you possibly more thoroughly spoil a movie? It’s like you ran down a list of everything that happens in the last 20 minutes of the movie.
Please use spoiler tags in the future.
