I saw the interview, and I didn’t take it as LIB did. The exchange went something like . . . “He didn’t know if I was black or white.” “The way you look or the way you sound?” – which Babs looked astonished at, as well she might, because it was a hugely stupid thing to say in light of the fact that she’s as white as white can be. So she sort of laughs and says “the way I sound.” Then, as if she’s reconsidering – “well . . .” And she gets up and sort of turns around and shakes her booty. The inference being, as far as I could tell, that maybe from the back she might look black.
Not “ooh, my ass is so small I couldnt’ possibly be other than white,” but “maybe from the back I might look like a black girl, because I’ve got a round ass.”
I guess in this case racism is in the eye of the beholder.

Well, I guess I can discount Jodi, much as the extreme judges are discounted in a diving competition. Disagreement with me seems to be her default position. I think I’m safe to assume that whatever I might have said, including the exact opposite of what I did say, her position would have opposed mine.
I’m disappointed, though, that liberals who are consistent in their worldview would not seize the opportunity to denounce such a racist demonstration for what it is. I suppose that for hate crimes legislation ever to be effective, it will be necessary to know whether the criminal was a liberal or conservative since the former cannot possibly have entertained a bigotted thought and the latter cannot possibly have escaped it.

I can’t stand Barbra Streisand, and I don’t think this was particularly racist. If anything she’s playing on the fairly common joke used by black comedians (Chris Rock, say) that white people have no butts. Heck, this meme is so common it’s been lampooned on King of the Hill. We can argue all we like about whether it’s any better to poke fun at ones own race, but I think there’s better things to whinge about with Barb. Remember, this is a person who’s been in every single Barbra Streisand movie.

Actually, I agree with Lib, to an extent. I wouldn’t exactly award her Racist of the Year, but it seems like a rather stupid thing for her to do.

I don’t think Barbra’s antics constituted a “little slight”. I think she should have told Lipton what a stupid question that was. The same thing she would have told a Fox News reporter if he had asked, “Was it the look of you or the sound of you [that made him think you might be black]?”.

As for your squeaky whine about hypocritical liberals, if I DID have a kneejerk reaction to your OP that colored my response, it was not to Barbra and her liberalness (I am SO not a fan), but to YOU and YOUR hypocrisy.
Your OP seemed like such a transparent case of Bash the Liberal, such a twisty reach to find something to be outraged about, that it says a GREAT deal more about you and your politics than about Babs and hers.
