Gotta love Roy Halladay. I usually just lurk here but I shudder to think how the past few seasons would have gone without his consistency and professionalism. He’s one of those rare guys who gets his teammates to elevate their play; a true leader.
Is anyone interested in Guillermo Mota? Anyone at all? We will trade you for a pack of gum. Granted, I haven’t caught every single Dodger game, but it seems to me that this guy can’t pitch without getting into trouble. Thank God today’s game wasn’t on the line. I don’t know much about the Marlins’ offense this year, but seeing Kershaw go 7 hitless innings against anybody makes me very, very happy.
Of course, I can’t help but feel like this whole season is going to have an asterisk next to it, thanks to Manny.
Three walk-off wins in a row for the Yankees. First time since 1972 they did that. There was a great play by Mauer to stop the winning run in the 9th. What a player that guy is.
John Lackey is now 0-1 with an ERA of Infinity. Let’s hope he improves on that record.
Interested in Dontrelle Willis? Straight up.
Blah. The Reds were swept by the frigging Padres!
I guess the lesson here is that it’s a looong season.
The pitchers certainly delivered today.
Arroyo went 7 innings, giving up 6 hits and 3 runs, but took the loss. Peavy pitched a complete game, surrendering only 4 hits and 1 run.
I’m afraid I’m going to have to pass.
What a coincidence…we swept the Pirates!
(Sorry…really I never talk trash, but I had to)
Re: Mota…Thanks for taking him off our hands…he was terrible
Mota isn’t a member of the Reds? I guess you were talking about someone else.
Damn the Blue Jays and Dodgers look good right now.
Meanwhile, it’s a clusterfuck in the NL Central, with the Brewers (DAMN YOU 1999!!!) on top, with the Cards, Cubs and Reds all at least three games over .500.
Reds in fourth place at 20-17, would have remained in first had they swept the sorry-ass Padres. Sheeit. Time to make some hay at home.
C’mon Redleggers!
I have lots of old time love for Dave Stieb, but Halladay is the best pitcher the team has ever had, discounting the short, roid-fueled two years of Clemens. The man is a machine.
Things look bright for the Yanks rather quickly. 5 straight win, two against the Jays and three walk-off wins against KC in a row. It was an exciting weekend and included a feel good story.
Yanks are 4½ behind the Jays but only 1½ behind Boston.
Wang pitched a 7 inning shut-out giving up 4 hits and no walks or runs for AAA Scranton. He got 12 of the outs on groundballs and one K. It appears he is ready to return to the Yanks. Bruney may still need a few more outings in AAA but is apparently close. We also got news that Posada is nearly ready to return.
Rookie Brett Gardner visited critically ill children at New York Presbyterian Children’s Hospital in Manhattan Friday. He was given a bracelet by a little girl waiting for a heart transplant. She told him, “If you wear it you’ll hit a homerun.” Well Gardner hit an inside the ballpark Homerun Friday night. He wasn’t even supposed to be in the game but went in when Johnny Damon was tossed for arguing strikes. I am still trying to verify it, but to make it better, after a long wait, the girl got her heart transplant and it was successful. The word on the Heart came in either Friday night or Saturday morning.
Newsday confirms that “a replacement heart was found for her and she had successful surgery.”
How about those Royals?!?
Between them and the Jays this seems to be a bottom-dwellers league here. More power to em is what I say too, I love me an underdog story.
Don’t forget about the Rangers, who lead their division. Their pitching looks decent and their offense has always been smashing.
Hey, my Jays have only finished last once in the last ten years.
Anyone want to guess the next manager to be fired? It has got to be Bob Geren of the A’s. The A’s have been horrible and they’re embarrassing themselves lately. Getting blown out in the past 4 games. They ought to fire the trainer too. How many injuries has this team had? What team wants Matt Holliday? He’ll be traded soon for a team needing a rental bat. Jason Giambi should retire.
Geren certainly looks firable, but Billy Beane doesn’t put a lot of stock in who his manager is anyway, so he may wait. So I’m going to guess Eric Wedge. The Indians have been awful.
Teixeira looks like a completely different hitter since A-Rod got back, doesn’t he? .375/.429/.625 in the last 7 days. And this is when the hated Yankees start looking scary.
This is much more like the Yanks are suppose to look and now Posada, Bruney and Wang are all on the way back. Bruney should be active tonight.
The sooner Cash is off the team the better. He tried to cost the team the game Sunday with his pathetic defense.
We even got a good update on Xavier Nady. He should start his rehab this week.
I was at last night’s Dodger game. The Mets’ “defense” was just unbelievably attrocious. Do they normally have defensive problems, or was last night a fluke due to (as I heard some Mets fans saying) an abundance of injuries?
From a Dodger fan perspective, it was ugly, and the extra innings meant I didn’t get home until after midnight, but a win is a win.
