When you got Shefield in one corner, Murphy in the other, no real first basemen on the roster, and whoever is still standing at short there are problems. The bigger issue here is none of these guys is a good enough hitter to be worth putting up with terrible defense. I mean if Adam Dunn was out in left I could live with it, but not the corpse of Shefield. Once again the Mets seem determined to waste their star power.
Dontrelle tossed a 7 inning one hitter against Texas tonight. Change your mind yet. He only fell behind the count to 3 batters. Where did that come from?
Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready just played his guitar solo version of the Star Spangled Banner at Safeco Field for tonight’s Mariners/Angels game
Yeah, the Tigers managed to cool off the red hot Rangers. And, now the A’s are winning in extra innings against the Rays.
Ugh, the D-backs have 3 games in the next two days against the Marlins. With the fickle South Florida weather, I’m not sure they’re going to be able to get those in. The D-backs don’t come back to Miami this year and they’re not playing the Rays either. So, they either have to get the games in or the D-backs will lose a day off. They don’t go back to play the Braves either so a trip to South Florida will be a long flight from somewhere.
On the plus side for you, football season is only about three months away.
Wow, incredible comeback by the Royals last night!
This has to be the least embarrassing season to be a Royals fan in decades! (yes, including the miraculous 2003)
By some reports, his new anti-anxiety meds are working. Maybe he and Greinke can form a mutual support group.
Looks like a chance for more rain in South Florida. Ugh, could be a very long day for the Marlins and Diamondbacks.
Quirky stat of the week:
Over their past 10 games, the Washington Nationals have set a franchise record (going back to their days as the Expos) by scoring at least 5 runs in 10 straight games.
In those 10 games, the Nationals went 1-9.
Wow!
I feel so bad for the hapless natinals…They seem to be doing everything decently right, but the cards just aren’t falling.
Wow, it looks like there are less than 500 people at the Marlins/D-backs doubleheader. A new stadium will help the Marlins? Even though the Marlins have been in a horrible slump, this is a team that is worth watching. Hanley Ramirez is one of the best players in baseball.
Their average attendance is listed as over 19,000.
I think it’s more than just a new stadium; the team was widely perceived as having stabbed the fans in the back in 1998. Even winning in 2003, there’s a sense that they’re ever more mercenary than most pro sports teams - openly, almost disrespectfully so.
Texas got a triple play about 1/2 hour ago, at the expense of the Tigers. First one I’ve seen live (well, on TV).
I was just in Miami (Miami Beach) for a long weekend. A buddy of mine tried to save some cash and take public transportation to the Stadium. NIGHTMARE! A bus to downtown, than a train to a somewhat shady part of town, then a bus through a bad part of town, which doesn’t even drop you off at the stadium, but a mile away!
It was absolutely horrible to get to. We understood why some may decide to stay away.
Aaron Harang is a workhorse, a totally underappreciated pitcher in the MLB. 5-1 Reds over the stinking Phils. The way it ought to be, and by that I mean US winning like we should have last night.
The WS Champs are lucky Joey Votto is suffering from vertigo or something…
:shakes fist:
And Papi got his first HR of the season!
Yanks made it 8 Straight and Hughes picked up the win.
The Jays lost to the Red Sox so only 2½ behind now.
Tonight sucks. Looks like the D-backs are about to lose both games of this doubleheader.
And guess what? I just got D-backs tickets for Memorial Day. We’re playing the Padres so there is a chance the D-backs could win. Still, I’m thinking more about the 10 block walk to the light rail station than the chance of the D-backs winning. This team looks bad.
I would guess that Papi just needed some time off. Good for him though.
I still follow the Reds and was happy to see them win today.
Just this month Australian channel ten launched a TV channel (One HD) that broadcasts 24 hour sports in high definition. They show two major league baseball games daily. They are also covering the NBA finals. So, at long last, I can watch US sports, some of it even live (Cavs-Magic was live today).
If I remember correctly you also support the UK Wildcats? We have at least two favourites in common, the Reds and the Cats. I grew up in Lexington KY in the forties, fifties and sixties so its natural that I support the Reds and the Cats. What’s your excuse?
