Well, it looks like Chris Carpenter isn’t suffering any lingering effects of his injury. He blanked the Cubs for five innings. Nice.
Yeah, what’s up with that? I have him in nearly all my fantasy leagues, because he’s a future stud in the mold of Todd Helton, IMO. (Ah - the intarweb tells me we’ll get his results today…)
Last night had a sterling silver lining for D-backs fans - it looks like Justin Upton is about to break out big time.
Holy crap did he look good last night. Fantastic break on his curve balls. Anyone know how to access pitch f/x data?
And Reynolds had just about the greatest fantasy day ever. 2 home-runs and 5 steals.
This what you are looking for? http://www.wantlinux.net/category/baseball-data/
Wasn’t pitching supposed to be the Dodgers’ weak point this season? I can’t help but wonder how long this is going to hold up. We held the Mets to 6 runs for the whole series. Combination of skill and luck, I suppose – I’ll gladly take the wins!
Ear infection - sweet! That shouldn’t take long to take care of.
Hawkeyeop: Nope - was looking for something from last night’s game.
Jake Peavy exercised his no-trade power today to reject a deal that would have moved him to the White Sox.
While trading Peavy probably makes sense for the Padres, given their need to rebuild, i’m glad he’s staying. He, Chris Young, and Adrian Gonzalez, are about the only things that make the Padres worth watching.
Also, i fucking hate the White Sox, so i’m glad he’s not going there.
Well, the coach had to turn back into a pumpkin sooner or later. Can enjoy another day in first, though. Made it to late May!
Not a good night for the White Sox. 20-1, Twins. Peavy looks smart right now.
Looks like the Manny Ramirez thing won’t hurt the Dodgers at all.
Now that they have clinched the division, they might have rested him for a month or two anyway.
I don’t think there’s a single Dodger fan willing to relax until that becomes a statistical fact. Right now, things seem a little too good to be true.
I don’t know if the Dodgers will continue to play as well as they have recently.
But there is nothing “too bad to be true” about the rest of the division. They really are this terrible.
The Giants have been playing over their heads to even be 1 game under .500. They have nowhere to go but down.
The Padres are already throwing in the towel, trying to cut payroll and get rid of their ace.
The DBacks and Rockies are among the worst 5 teams in baseball.
I guess the Dodgers can still play for home field though.
Padres swept the Giants, winning three one-run games in a row. Tonight they came back from 2-1 down in the bottom of the 9th to win 3-2.
In a moment of home-town excitement, the Padres’ third run was scored by Tony Gwynn, Jr., who was acquired today for Jody Gerut, and who walked in his first (pinch-hit) at-bat for the Padres before coming around to score the winning run tonight.
Kinda like that D-backs lead last May? The D-backs clinched the NL West in May, but they couldn’t hold it for the rest of the season.
Heck, the Rockies got hot for 5 weeks and got all the way to the World Series.
What? Nothing yet about the Cards sweep over the Cubs? Albert delivers a homer that was literally lights out, knocking out a lighted sign in the upper deck.
Is there a historical resource I can use to try to find out the last time the Dodgers held a nine-game lead in their division? I’d be curious to see how that season turned out for them.
My own personal Tigers are doing quite well. I listened to Leland talk about the defensive improvement. I don’t see it. They had another outfielder not make a catch on a fly ball that stayed in the park yesterday. That is 3 this year that I have seen. The infield does not seem all that much better. But the pitching has greatly improved. Verlander is back and dominant. We just got a good game from Dontrelle. If he comes back, we will stay tough this year.
I know a lot of pitching success is due to defense. I just don’t see that we are fielding that much better. Perhaps we are.But the pitching has been impressive.
Nothing simple but there are ways to do it in baseball-reference.
Roll back year by year and click on the GN column to sort until you find the last year with the 9 game lead.
I haven’t been able to keep an eye on them lately, but I did glance at the picture of that. The sweep was very uplifting. And Carp is back and looking good! Still 0.00 ERA after 15 innings pitched.
Hah! That turned out even better than I would have imagined! The last year the Dodgers had a lead that big was…1988, the last time we won it all!
Thanks for the reference!
Sounds like Peavey isn’t interested in the AL at all.
Why would the White Sox make the effort???
You’re welcome, I already told Silenus, I am hoping for a Yankees vs Dodgers WS this year. It would be fun.
