Baseball rule question

No, that isn’t my logic and no, you can’t.

Rule 8.05(g) as quoted is referring to a pitcher making an effort to deceive a runner by making it appear as if he is pitching when he is not. Walden is not doing that; he is leaving the rubber as he delivers his pitch which, again, is not forbidden by the rules and which is common to every pitcher in organized baseball, so far as I can tell. In fact, that’s what all of Rule 8.05 is, really. The same thing is echoed in 8.01(b).

As to the idea of running up to the plate, you cannot do that either. It is forbidden by Rule 8.01, which states that the delivery of the pitch must commence from the set or windup position, as the case may be. Taking multiple steps off the rubber would constitute not delivering the pitch from a legal pitching position. (It would also simply be a case of making a travesty of the game, for which the pitcher would be ejected.)
