Basketballs League - Are you fucking serious?
Pretty slim? There are about 450 players in the NBA in a country of 300 million people. This is like advising someone to buy Powerball tickets as an investment strategy.
Yes but there are thousands who get a free college education for playing, even if they don’t end up making millions.

Are you?

I heard they were getting Antonio Banderas to teach them ballroom dancing during detention.

Don’t go knockin’ my retirement plan, else I’ll have to derail this pit thread!

Is this really the same 2.5 who a few days ago was decrying the “horrible racism” in the movie Holiday Inn?

maybe when he wakes up he can explain the contradiction- 1940’s movie mocking blacks not ok, mocking blacks in the OP is ok?

I like that they are selling a product, as it teaches some skills. In Houston, they stand in the median by the Gallaria and just ask stopped traffic for money like the hobos do. I always thought that a really bad thing to teach kids.

I miss VCO3…

I remember thinking this guy was a prick when he was a guest.
Over the past couple of months I largely ignored his threads/posts, tho I recall thinking at least 1 or 2 of them looked as tho they might not be completely lacking merit.
Gotta remember not to question my first impressions…

Judging from recent news footage, however, I can agree that additional hoops opportunities are unnecessary. What the bruthas REALLY need is a BOWLING league!

Yeah. Although he had a thing for black people I don’t remember him picking on children.

You’re kidding, right?

Did yo see The Daily Show on this the other night?

They showed video of one political commentator, from one of the cable news channels, saying that Obama should stick to shooting hoops.

No I’m not. I’m sure I didn’t read all his threads but I don’t recall anything like that. My personal favorite was the one where he said women didn’t get raped or that he didn’t understand the whole rape concept. He did, on rare occasion, come up with threads that at least made me laugh. Ignorant Ghetto Kid, is just sad.

The guy had a weird obsession with black people, but he actively hated children. His final thread was about how a woman who died trying to save her daughters was part of the stupid “cult of the child.” There was also that memorable thread where he said only spoiled rich brats would know that steak and lobster existed. No, that guy really loathed children.
I think the OP has misunderstood the true purpose of the basketball league(s). Look at it this way: Would you rather pay too much for a candy bar so this kid can keep playing basketball, OR have the league go under, the kid join a gang, and take that money from you at gunpoint? Leagues like this are designed to prevent the latter scenario from playing out. Experience has shown they are more effective at this than Science or Math clubs.

Not only that, but hey, the kid is actually out trying to sell something to earn money for something he wants, as opposed to asking for a handout or stealing. In a way, he’s learning a life-lesson by selling those candy bars. You should support that.
Look at how low you are setting the bar. Is it really too much to expect a child to not join a violent gang unless he in a basketball league?

These children are damaged by the low expectations put on them. Children need to challenged; we to expect great things from them. When you tell a child that he is doing well just for not joining a gang, you are damaging that child.

2.5, would you have reacted differently if it were Intelligent Suburban Children selling light bulbs for their Chess team?

I did not mention race. Yes, most of the children in these programs are black, but not all of them.

Did he look like this guy?

In all seriousness, I know a PhD in linguistics who is a huge proponent of ‘yous/yous all/yous guys’ because English does not have a plural ‘you’. It’s not illogical and not really as ignorant as you think, IMO. Plus, you have no idea how the kid writes. I speak a lot worse than I write, and I speak and write to my audience. I wouldn’t be dressing my words up too much in front of Wal Mart.
