Bat question, please help

ok, the other night i was walking my dog and he kept sniffing at something in the thick grass under a tree. I went back to the place the next morning and saw a big fuzzy brown bat with ants crawling over it, it looked like it was still moving so i got a brush and removed the ants and put it in a cardboard box… turned it over and there are 3 little bats on it huddled together under the wings. they all move but i dont know what do with them. The vet is too long of a drive from here, so i turn to you all for help… thasnk in advance

Unless you are an expert in animal care (bats specifically) I doubt there is much you can do beyond getting the critter to someone who can help.

Be careful however, bats are a major source of rabies transmission and you don’t know what is ailing her. Try not to handle her at all.

If you aren’t up for a drive you might try calling animal control, the local sheriff, a nearby university, a zoo or anyone else you can think of who might go to the trouble of collecting the bat from you.

[sub]Come to think of it you might want to avoid calling the Sheriff…I have a sneaking suspicion the bat would just get shot or dropped at the side of the highway. Of course, that might be totally unfair but still…[/sub]
