When it first debuted in 1992, Batman - The Animated Series stunned the cartoon world with it’s cool art-deco Gotham City, myriad of celebrity voices, and well-written scripts. And now, 11 years later, it still looks great. Columbia House, of all sources, has begun offering the show on DVD with six eps per disc in the original broadcast order. Warner Brothers had started releasing the show last year, but did so haphazardly, with no apparent concern for order or even theme. While the CH discs don’t have the extras (yet, the first disc just came out) than the “official” releases, they do look terrific.
As for the package itself, Warner decided to go with those damned cardboard snapper cases while CH has gone with super slimline plastic keep cases. If you’ve seen the Twilight Zone box sets, you know what they look like.
I am definitely looking forward to getting the entire series. Of course, I’ll end up buying them all (at 65 eps, there SHOULD be 11 discs) and Warner will release a box set. If I don’t buy them all, they won’t.
