Battery sizes?

There are A, AA, C and D batteries, what happened to B? or CC for that matter. Where there even any batteries beyond D?

Not to say Cecil is Ameri-centric, but a June 2002 Yahoo usenet board says

According to the folks at Energizer Batteries, not only was there a “B” cell battery, there still is. It’s been discontinued in North America because no manufacturers make any products that use it anymore. But it’s still available in Europe and is used in sets of three to power a bicycle light. Energizer suggests it isn’t too popular over there either, so it may go the same way as its North American counterpart.
